Biopharmaceuticals are regarded as one of the most exciting areas of modern medicines. In contrast to chemically synthesized pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals are “grown” and “harvested” though a process of fermentation and subsequent purification steps. Through the formulation, additional properties may be achieved to improve delivery and bioavailability. Many biopharmaceuticals are being used in clinical practice to treat a variety of medical conditions, including diabetes, leukemia and hemophilia.
